Sygic, the world’s most advanced navigation app, today unveiled its new alcohol calculator feature. The new functionality will be available to all users of Ford vehicles equipped with the Sync 3infotainment system, and for other platforms including MirrorLink 1.1., Jaguar and Land Rover InControl™ Apps and HondaLink App in the coming weeks.
Sygic Car Navigation is the world's most advanced car navigation app, providing users with access to GPS mapping tools, real-time traffic data, parking advice, and real-time info about gas prices. The new alcohol calculator demonstrates Sygic’s commitment to safety, and prompts drivers with questions upon entering the car to help them determine whether they’ve consumed too much alcohol to drive.
The Sygic app is optimized to work seamlessly with Ford’s Sync 3 AppLink vehicle touchscreen via the automotive giant’s Smart Device Link [SDL] technology. When drivers enter their vehicles and access Ford’s Sync3 infotainment system after 10PM, the app will ask whether the driver has consumed any alcohol. If the answer is ‘yes,’ the app will display four simple questions on the touchscreen of the vehicle, prompting drivers for their sex, weight, the number of drinks they’ve had, and the time since their last drink. Based on these answers, the app decides whether they are safe to drive.
In 2015, 10,265 people were killedin alcohol-related driving accidents, accounting for nearly one-third (29%) of all traffic-related deaths in the United States. In the same year, nearly 1.1 million drivers were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol or narcotics – and that number accounts for only one percent of the 111 million self-reported episodes of alcohol-impaired driving among U.S. adults each year.
“Continuing our commitment to keeping US roads safe, Sygic’s pioneering alcohol calculator feature will help tackle the problem of alcohol-impaired drinking and driving – keeping drivers and others out of harm’s way,” says Sygic Automotive Product Manager, Francisc Juras.
Globally, 74% of all smartphone users have GPS services on their devices – Sygic’s navigation app is the world's most downloaded navigation app and has been described by the BBC as one of the world’s most successful apps. It’s alcohol calculator feature will be available free of charge to iOS and Android premium users, joining a list of safety features integrated into Sygic’s navigation apps, including Head-up Display for safe night driving and automatic speed limit warnings.
Sygic’s app and new feature will be showcased at the 2018 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas starting January 9. Attendees can check out the new feature at the Livio (a Ford subsidiary) booth.
